In today’s world, there are lots of opportunities to work from home as freelancers or starting an internet business with online marketing at home.

But most of us also are struggling maintaining work life balance especially that you are in your comfort zone, your home.

From the outside looking in, working from home seems like a walk in the park. Whether it’s the opportunity to select your own hours, not having to deal with rush hour traffic or simply doing everything you need to at your own convenience; many that work in the mainstream corporate environment, are envious of those who work from home.

While these are some good perks, the truth is that working from home isn’t always that easy.

The challenges are present for the newbie and the veteran. Some days will you on top of your game and other days will see you overwhelmed with just about everything; similar to life behind a desk in a corporate office.

Personally, I start my day listening to motivational audios or videos. Then have a 15-30minutes exercise. Of course, don’t forget to eat breakfast that will fuel you the rest of the day.

Before you start working on assess your priorities and to focus on what you absolutely need to accomplish. You can get a notebook and list all the priorities. Think what is important and what is urgent.

2.       Determine your abilities

Understanding your abilities is crucial to be successful in your chosen fields. No matter if you are an entrepreneur or freelancer working for others.

Identifying your abilities and motivated skills can be a powerful approach for guiding your path to success.

Abilities are those things we can do seemingly without any training or instruction.

When you are doing what comes naturally to you, you will enjoy it more, do it better, and feel energized. Discovering your natural abilities will help you to see a clearer path into the future, and also help solve the mystery of why things in the past may not have worked.

Everyone is born with a unique set of natural abilities. If these are identified and encouraged, the individual achieves maximum satisfaction and productivity.

3.       Understand how you work 

Developing good work habits and time management practices is often a matter of developing proper attitudes toward work and time.

Seven such attitudes and values are (1) developing a mission, goals, and a strong work ethic; (2) valuing good attendance and punctuality; (3) valuing your time; (4) valuing neatness, orderliness, and speed; (5) working smarter, not harder; (6) becoming self-employed psychologically; (7) playing the inner game of working, and (8) appreciating the importance of rest and relaxation.

Focus. Successful entrepreneurs have the ability to focus their attention on important projects and see them through. This is the secret to getting things done. Once their priorities are set, successful businesspeople refuse to switch from task to task randomly.

 4.       Brainstorm often

Discovering the ideas, while important, is only part of the journey for anyone who is looking to grow a business.  But without the ideas, there is no starting place from which to build.

If you have a team, it’s best to brainstorm to get the best idea but if you are working alone for your business then take some time to figure out and brainstorm often.

Once ideas are uncovered there must be a process for deciding which should be acted upon. There is neither the time nor resources available to act upon every idea that comes along for a business, and not all ideas will help move the company toward its ultimate goals.

Don’t get stuck on the brainstorming though, you also have to understand your limits and if it’s already best to get help.

5.       Set To Do’s List and Goals

Whatever the method, a to-do list is key to achieving our goals.

If you don’t break big goals up into actionable items they serve as nothing more than wishes and will not be accomplished. It all comes down to scheduling and then following through.

Determine your goal, then systematically overcome your obstacles. The tragedy of life isn’t failing to reach your goal. It’s in not having one to reach. The only thing standing between you and your goal are those little things called obstacles.

Make a list of each and every one of them. Break each one down into its basic components. Then make your plan to overcome each and every one of them.

6.       Keep on Learning

Being an entrepreneur or freelancer it is essential to keep on learning the stuff that we are doing in our business or with our work.

We need to have that knowledge to keep us on top of our competitors. We need to be informed. Keep up-to-date.

Challenge yourself to learn something new or take on a new healthy habit or kick an old, unhealthy one.

There’s never been a better time to learn something new. The internet makes it so easy – you don’t even have to leave the comfort of your home. Do a search on Youtube and you can find lessons on just about anything you could think of.

Keeping up-to-date with your industry, your product or improving your skills is key for building expert power. By developing expertise in your work and your industry, you’ll earn the trust and respect of the people around you. From a leadership perspective, this is invaluable!
